Odenma means big denma. Denma means post-horse.

The street 2 ladies are walking was Nikko Kaido and Oshu Kaido of Edo Five Routes. Edo Five Routes like Nikko Kaido and Oshu Kaido needed post-horses. So Ieyasu Tokugawa who is the first shogun of Tokugawa housed government officers of post-horse in Odenma.

Odenma developed with the prosperity of the streets. A government officer of post-horse was Kageyu Magome. Kageyu Magome came from Mikawa Province. Mikawa was a special production locality of cotton. So Kageyu Magome started cotton shop and made it prosper.

Now Odenma is just an office town. Of course there is no horse. But you can feel Edo at this town. (See the following photos.)
