(English)

Mama is in Ichikawa city, Chiba prefecture. Ichikawa has many historical spots. Gubouji temple and Tekona shrine are two of them.

Gubouji temple established by Gyoki who was in charge of building Todaiji temple, in 737. Kukai (Kobo-Daishi) restructured this temple in 822. Nichiren changed the denomination of this temple from Shingon Buddhism to Nichiren Buddhism. Three Buddhism great men related this temple. And this temple was famous for red and yellow leaves.

Tekona who was a unequaled beautiful woman left her legend here.

Still, Ichikawa city is very interesting for people who like history. The arm of the sea was reclaimed but Tekona shrine and Gubouji temple are still here.

In Edo period, Edo was redeveloped by Tokugawa government. Plus, there were many fires in Edo. So many woods were needed.

In Edo period, Fukagawa was a lumberyard town. So Fukagawa town was prosperous. To carry woods, there were many canals like Venice. In winter, blue of the canals and white of snow made beautiful contrast.

Now, many canals changed to roads. But a few canals still left are making the vestiges of those days.
