Here is Atago shrine. The sea was Edo bay. The tall building which had triangle roof was Tsukiji Honganji temple. Hiroshige always painted Tsukiji Honganji temple when drawing southeast direction. Anyway, this is a beautiful, wonderful, marvelous view.

By the way, do you know why the old man wore a painful face. Look at the following pictures. Here, Mt. Atago is not high but a real mountain. So Mt. Atago was a excellent spot for observation. Kaishu Katsu selected here to have the meeting with Takamori Saigo.

ここは、今もそこに御鎮座している愛宕神社である。奥に見えるは江戸湾、画面真ん中やや左の一際高い三角屋根は、築地本願寺である(少々暗くて見えにくいが)。広重は、いつも、南東方向を描く時は築地本願寺を入れ込んでいる。よほど、ランドマークだったのだろう。とにもかくにも、何とも美しい風景である。

ところで、この老人が何故にこんなにも苦しい表情をしているか、お分かりか。以下の写真を見ていただきたい。愛宕山は、高くないが山であり、見晴らしの良いところだった。勝海舟は、西郷隆盛との江戸城無血開城の会議を、この場所で開いた。『御代、この美しい江戸の町を。ここを血の海にしたいか、西郷。』
